Just as Storm Claudia hit the north-west the prior day, the home side overwhelmed United away at the their home ground. It was a display that firmly established their leadership claims as they reinforced their standing at the WSL pinnacle.

Successive Setbacks for Manchester United

This outcome represented consecutive league defeats for Skinner's side for the first time since last May, putting them seven points off the table toppers with their championship aspirations severely dented.

Manchester United's capacity to balance league and European soccer with a small squad has been a widely debated issue since they secured entry to the European competition. Team Changes

Skinner had attempted to freshen things up with a several changes. Ella Toone, Terland, Dominique Janssen and Galton all added energy, although the omission of the high-performing Melvine Malard to the bench was questioned.

The hosts, in contrast, have fewer fitness issues. Andrée Jeglertz made one change from the previous win over the Toffees with Hemp making her initial starting appearance since healing from injury.

Commanding Opening Period

The pressure started to build for Skinner and his squad from the opening minute. Early Chances

United had several forays forward, their direct style giving them alternatives in the flanks but they could not challenge the City goalkeeper. Manchester City, on the other hand, commanded possession, teasing their rivals and trying to lure them of their structure.

Goals Galore

Ex- City player Park came most likely to score, rattling the post, but the visitors were offensively poor and failed to produce a single shot on goal.

The hosts, in contrast, could have added to their advantage when a delightful Vivianne Miedema through ball sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to fluff her lines but it mattered little to the hosts. Having failed to beat any side who placed above them in the prior term, City's side now have successes against the Gunners and Manchester United to place them in a strong standing after nine matches.
